US varsity launches Dr. Hargobind Khorana Scholarships for Indian students

New Delhi: A partnership has been signed among the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India (GOI) and Indo-US-Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) to launch a scholarship programme for Indian students.

This scholarship has been named in honour of Dr. Hargobind Khorana, who won the Nobel Prize in 1968 for his work at the interface of Chemistry and Biology while a member of the UW faculty.

The scholarship will provide an opportunity to Indian students to undertake research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) in summer 2009 for a period of 10 weeks.

Students enrolled in B.Tech, M.Tech and M.Sc courses in recognized institutions of higher education in India in the areas of Biotechnology including agricultural, health and biomedical sciences are eligible for the scholarships.

The Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF), established under an agreement between the Governments of India and the United States of America in March 2000, is an autonomous, not-for-profit society that promotes and catalyzes Indo-US bilateral collaborations in science, technology, engineering and biomedical research through substantive interaction among government, academia and industry.
